1.5 Million Uncertified USB Chargers Recalled By Health Canada

According to Mobile Syrup, Health Canada is currently recalling around 1.5 million uncertified USB chargers in what the department is calling a “planned national sampling and compliance project”. It’s almost all of the recalled chargers that are sold at dollar stores, convenience stores, and gas stations, directly across Canada, and Health Canada says that these products “were discovered to pose an unacceptable risk of electric fire or shock”.

The government department cites an electric shock and fire concerns within these “uncertified” USB chargers for smartphones that are available in Canada for a cheap price. (image via narcity.com).

And according to Health Canada as well, “these certified products can be identified by a recognized certification mark on the product itself”. “The certification mark must be on the product itself, and not just the packaging”, says an excerpt from the Health Canada website. Anyone who is concerned about the quality of their USB charger can go to Health Canada’s recall website for more information in regards to a list of recalled products.

Though, if you have purchased a USB charger from a dollar store or convenience store, your probably better off to stop using the charger and to also replace it with something directly purchase from the manufacturer, like Samsung or Apple, or from other big box retail outlets.
